JEE Main 2024 session 1 will be held from January 24 to February 1, and the session 2 exam will be conducted from April 1 till 15, 2024. Following this, JEE Advanced will be conducted on May 26, 2024. For students who are appearing for the second session of JEE Main, the time difference between their Main and Advanced exams is less.
Students who are focusing on JEE Advanced must utilise this limited time to prepare well. Since it is nearly impossible to prepare for JEE Advanced within a few weeks, IIT aspirants will have to start preparing for JEE Advanced from now onwards, while they are preparing for Class 12 exams and JEE Main. They should continue their preparation with a full proof timetable devoting equal time slots for each subject. Those who have planned to take both the January and April attempts of JEE Main may take mock tests periodically to fine-tune their preparation for the same.
Effective revision techniques for better memory
Students taking Class 12 board exams should also utilise the gaps between the board exams for mock tests. Test analysis after every mock test will be the key to improving preparation before the actual exam. The time from April i.e. after the second session of JEE Main, till the Day of JEE Advanced could be devoted only to JEE Advanced by taking mock tests followed by rigorous test analysis.
Candidates are advised to revise the notes made while preparing and stay connected with their respective subject teachers. Joining a test series with concept strengthening sessions can also yield good results.
While JEE Main paper-1 has only two types of questions — MCQs with single correct answer and numerical answer type JEE Advanced has a mixture of various types of questions. There are MCQs with either a single correct answer or multiple correct answers. There could be comprehensions followed by two or more objective type questions with single or multi correct answers. There may be matrix match type questions which involve matching two columns or even three columns. The Integer type questions involve a subjective type of question with the answer an integer or could be asked correctly to two decimal places.
One main thing to remember while preparing and appearing for the exam is negative marking. The preparation strategy should be built with effective time management and subject-wise planning. Here are some vital tips that will help you to prepare for both JEE Main and JEE Advanced in the remaining months.
Following study schedules is very important. Students must follow their timetable strictly. Getting success in JEE Main/Advanced is not that easy but do remember that with hard work and commitment, you can achieve anything in life.
Mock tests play an important role in making you familiar with the pattern of paper, and it also checks your strong and weaker areas. To analyse your preparation and build the right examination temperament, students are advised to take mock tests. It is advisable to do test analysis after every mock test for improvement.
Time management is essential for every phase of your life, not just JEE preparation. Most of the students have queries as to how many hours of studies can change the outcome. As per the experts, 5-6 hours of dedicated study sessions in a day is vital to crack exams such as JEE Advanced.
Speed and accuracy: There would be limited time given to students to complete the exam. You must maintain a constant speed but don’t forget that accuracy will help you gain more marks. There is negative marking in the exam which can ha,per your result, if you end up committing silly mistakes while trying to maintain speed. The accuracy will come with practicing the questions in limited time.
Don’t forget to take care of your physical and mental well-being. In the end, good health is very important for any exam. Maintain a good sleep schedule of about 6-7 hours every day, especially a month before the exam. Keep your immunity strong as this will protect you from falling ill before the exam. Try to have home cooked food as far as possible.
One must not start any new books at this stage. However, you can still refer to standard books for concept clearing. This stage should be utilised more for problem solving, developing short cuts, and memorising formulae, understanding one’s strengths and weaknesses. Aspirants must take up mock tests in CBT (Computer Based Test) mode to develop ones’ self-confidence and exam temperament. Time Management is crucial to score more marks. It is advisable to take at least three mock tests per week for JEE Main and at least two mock tests per week on current pattern of JEE Advanced. All tests must end with a test analysis session.
