Dry spell likely to end as MeT predicts intermittent rains, snowfall till Feb 2

Srinagar, Jan 25: The people across the valley are pinning hopes for the much-awaited snowfall as the weatherman here has predicted intermittent wet spell till February 02.
So far, the weather conditions have remained dry throughout the Chillai-Kalan till date, but as per the forecast, the light snowfall is expected from this evening.
The local Meteorological department said, light snowfall is expected at isolated higher reaches tonight.
On Jan 26, generally cloudy with light rain over plains and light snow at isolated higher reaches is expected towards early morning.
However, on Jan 27, generally cloudy with possibility of light snowfall at isolated higher reaches towards late evening is expected.
Moreover, on Jan 28-29, amidst cloudy weather, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain, snow over many places.
On Jan 30-31, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain, snow at widespread places most likely.
On February 01 and 02, there is a possibility of light rain, snow at many places.
Meanwhile, the weatherman has issued an advisory in wake of the weather system from January 28-31, saying that it may lead to temporary closure of roads of higher reaches and important passes like Sinthan pass, Mughal Road, Sadhna and Razdan pass, Zojila etc.
“Travellers are advised to plan accordingly,” the MeT Director, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said.
Moreover, the minimum temperature has improved at multiple places with Srinagar recording a low of minus 3.6 degree Celsius.
At minus 6.3 degree Celsius, Pahalgam, a famous tourist destination was the coldest in Kashmir while Gulmarg, a famous ski-resort, recorded a low of minus 4.5 degree Celsius.
Qazigund, the gateway of Kashmir has recorded a low of minus 4.2 degree Celsius while in Kokernag, the mercury settled at minus 1.6 degree Celsius. In Kupwara, the mercury settled at minus 3.7 degree Celsius.
