Decline in Hajj applications deserves attention

With the snowfall bringing cheer among the tourists and also the tourist players across Jammu and Kashmir, the fresh precipitation has however, brought misery to the many people as the electricity remained cut-off in many areas in the last two days. The snags and other related issues faced at multiple places have ended up in hardships among the people, who are raising questions against the claims of the administration with regard to the readiness about tackling the situation ahead of the snowfall. The fresh snowfall has put a question mark over the claims of the concerned Power Distribution Limited Corporation as the people have been pushed to the wall at several places. As per the media reports, the consumers receiving the electricity from Qazigund receiving station claimed that they are reeling under darkness for the last three straight days, which indicates their sufferings and hardships in absence of the electricity amidst the prevailing weather conditions. However, the concerned authorities at the same time have claimed to have geared up for the restoration of electricity, saying that five 33 kV feeders out of 120 are presently under fault, while 76 out of 1118 HT 11 kV feeders are down, in view of heavy snowfall in parts of Electric Divisions Handwara, Baramulla & Kupwara, where damage to power infrastructure due to heavy snowfall has also been reported. In other places, the restoration process has already been started, but there is a need to pace up the restoration work so that the electricity is restored at all the places without any further delay and the people could heave a sigh of relief.
