DC Shopian chairs District Level NCORD Committee meeting

Shopian, Feb 27: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Faz Lul Haseeb who is also the chairman of District Level Committee (DLC) under Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD), Shopian Tuesday chaired the NCORD Committee meeting with the concerned members at Mini-Secretariat, here.
During the meeting, threadbare discussion was held on various issues related to incidence of drug addiction, areas of concern and hotspots of drug use besides cultivation of illicit poppy and bung in the district.
The DC sought details from the concerned departments about the measures taken to control the drug menace and cultivation of illicit poppy and cannabis in the district.
He stressed on intensified crack downs on the drug peddlers along with rigorous awareness/ sensitization camps and inspection drives in a coordinated manner between the concerned departments such as Police, Medical, Education and Social Welfare, etc.
The DC impressed upon the stakeholder departments to work with synergy to combat drug abuse in the district by playing an active role in anti-drug measures.
He directed the concerned officers to plan a sensitization programme about drug addiction with participation of all the concerned stakeholders, including school principals, students, civil society members and others.
Assistant Drug Controller apprised the meeting that 95% medical wholesale/retail shops so far have installed CCTV cameras for proper surveillance of sale of over the counter drugs
The DC directed the Assistant Drug Controller to ensure installation of CCTV in all Pharmaceutical stores.
During the meeting, DC exhorted upon the SDM, Zainapora and Tehsildars for organising mass awareness drives on drug abuse in their respective areas with active participation of the Police department. He further directed SDM, Zainapora to keep a high vigil in such areas which are vulnerable to drug trafficking.
The meeting also discussed the role of Social Welfare, Education, Health, Youth Services and Sports for drug demand reduction strategies, rehabilitation and mental health counseling etc.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Shopian, Tanushree; ACR, Shopian, Shakoor Ahmed Dar, SDM Zainapora, Tehsildars, CMO Shopian and other concerned Civil and Police officers were present.
