Srinagar, Feb 29: A 55-year-old man jumped into the river Jhelum near Safa Kadal area here while the efforts are on to retrieve his body, officials said.
They added that River police, along with SDRF department, conducted a search operation the whole day but could not locate the body despite hectic efforts.
An official said that Nazir Ahmed Matoo (55), a resident of Tangbagh Eidgah, Srinagar, jumped into the river Jhelum near Safa Kadal this morning.
He added that, despite day-long efforts from SDRF, River police, and others, Nazir Ahmed’s body could not be retrieved from the water.
An official from SDRF said they searched the whole day, but the body has not been retrieved yet.
Meanwhile, the locals from the area said, amidst the repeated suicide attempts, they demand a proper fencing of the bridge to prevent such incidents.
