Srinagar, Apr 4: In a significant development, National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah announced on Thursday the readiness of the National Conference (NC) and Congress to jointly contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing media representatives during a youth conference in Nawa-e-Subh Srinagar, Omar Abdullah emphasized the cohesive approach between the NC and Congress ahead of the polls. He highlighted that while Congress has nominated candidates for two seats in the Jammu division, the NC has decided to field candidates for three seats in the Kashmir region.
Omar Abdullah revealed that NC President Dr. Farooq Abdullah is actively engaged in campaigning for Congress candidates in the Jammu division, reciprocating Congress’ support to the NC in Kashmir. This mutual cooperation signifies a united front aimed at consolidating electoral prospects.
Additionally, Omar Abdullah disclosed plans for both parties to nominate joint candidates across all constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing a concerted effort towards electoral success.
Reflecting on past electoral challenges, Omar Abdullah expressed optimism about voter turnout in Srinagar, urging residents to participate actively in the electoral process scheduled for May 11. However, he voiced concerns regarding the security arrangements for his party’s star campaigners and reported instances of interference in scheduled programs. He called for a conducive environment for fair elections.
