Fire Services Week: Fire & Emergency Services launches multiple activities

Jammu, Apr 14: As part of Fire Service Week observance throughout the country, the Fire and Emergency Services, J&K, has launched a slew of activities for public awareness regarding the fire prevention and precautionary measures.
The first day of the week was observed in the UT of J&K with offering high tributes to those gallant Firemen who laid their lives while safe guarding the life and property of masses during rescue and fire-fighting operations.
The main commemoration parade was held at Fire & Emergency Services Headquarters Gandhi Nagar here, besides at Provincial and District level.
During the main function, Director, Fire & Emergency Services J&K, Alok Kumar, was the chief guest. After commemoration parade, two minutes silence was observed in memory of Martyrs and also wreaths were laid on the Martyrs memorial by the senior officers and Jawans of the department.
While speaking on the occasion, Alok Kumar paid homage to brave firemen who laid down their lives for noble cause “We Serve to Save” and highlighted the ethos of 14th April. He emphasized upon the departmental officers to constitute special teams for giving demonstrations during the week regarding fire safety measures at District level in Industrial establishments, educational institutes, Hospitals and other institutions besides conducting essay competitions for the students and debates on this year’s slogan, “Ensure Fire Safety, Contribute Towards Nation Building” at Range/ District Headquarters.
Alok Kumar declared the Fire Service Week open and also issued instructions for organizing evacuation drills, essay competitions, fire audits so that the losses due to fire disasters are minimized, besides asking for sports events, free medical check-up camps for jawans.
Similar functions were held at Fire & Emergency Services Range Headquarters Batamaloo, Srinagar and other district headquarters.
