Rains lashes J&K parts, MeT predicts wet spell for next few days

Srinagar, Apr 13: The plains as well as the higher reaches of Jammu & Kashmir were lashed by rains on Saturday while the weatherman here has predicted the possibility of possibility of heavy rain, thunder, lightning, hailstorm and gusty winds at isolated places for the next 24 hours.
The temperature plummeted in the afternoon after the summer capital of J&K, Srinagar and other places received rainfall.
From evening and night, there is a possibility that rain will become widespread and then moderate to heavy rain and snow showers are expected across Jammu and Kashmir till tomorrow.
On Sunday, generally cloudy weather with light to moderate rain and snow in higher reaches at many places and possibility of heavy rain, thunder, lightning, hailstorm and gusty winds are expected at isolated places, Director Meteorological department (MeT), Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said.
He added that on April 15 & 16th, the weather is expected to remain partly to generally cloudy with possibility of light rain and snow in higher reaches at many places during 15th evening to 16th morning.
On April 17-18th, generally dry weather with late thundershower activity is expected at few places, he said, adding that on April 19-20th, the partly cloudy with light rain and snow at many places during 19th evening to 20th morning.
He said that from April 21st to 23rd, generally dry weather with thundershower activity can’t be ruled out.
In its detailed advisory, the MeT department said that farmers are advised to suspend farm operations till April 16th.
Temporary disruption of surface transportation over a few higher reaches during April 13-14th, saying that travelers & tourists are advised to plan accordingly.
“Temporary water logging is expected in few low lying areas and also there is a possibility of landslides, mudslides and shooting stones,” the advisory reads.
