The entire Kashmir is pained and shocked after a boat capsized and left six persons from Gandabal area of Batwara in Srinagar dead. The incident comes at a time when the government, despite starting the work on the construction of the bridge almost a decade ago, has not been completed, leaving the locals to lurch at large. It is quite unfortunate that the people, despite being claimed high and tall, are being pushed to the wall for basic facilities. In the 21st century, the people are still using the boats to cross the river, where the administration should have at least ensured the foot bridge for the locals to cross and reach their destinations. However, the decade-long delay has not only forced the people to suffer, but it has also led to the tragedy Tuesday where a boat carrying 15 people capsized, leaving six persons dead. Three among them are missing while as many are undergoing treatment at the hospital. This unfortunate incident has left everyone shocked and pained. The actual pain cannot be gauged at all, but the people took to the social media platforms and expressed their agony. To prevent such incidents across Jammu & Kashmir, the administration needs to gear up and press its men and machinery to ensure that all such spots are identified where the construction of the bridge is imperative and complete it within a shortest possible time. At present, the administration should start the work on the bridge at an earliest and ensure that Gandabal overpass is completed within the stipulated time frame of June 30, 2024.
