The power scenario has never changed in Jammu and Kashmir, especially in the valley as the people continued to face irregular power cuts, causing huge inconvenience to the consumers. In the absence of rainfall during winters, the concerned department claimed that the water level in the water bodies have reduced, which simultaneously has led to the reduction in the power generation. But, at this juncture, when the water level in the water bodies have increased amidst the intermittent rainfall, the department has once again claimed that at present, there is limited power availability, due to which an unavoidable increase in power curtailment has occurred. The situation indicates that the situation is never going to change for the consumers as in both the cases; the people have to suffer in the Valley. One fails to understand why the promises of round-the-clock electricity after the installation of the smart meters have not been fulfilled. Thousands and lakhs of rupees have been spent so far for augmenting the power infrastructure in Jammu & Kashmir, but unfortunately nothing has changed for the people on the ground, who continue to face irregular power cuts for one reason or the other. It is the time when the government, especially the concerned department needs to take adequate and mandatory measures to put an end to the power paucity in Jammu & Kashmir so that the motive behind spending hefty amount on augmenting the power infrastructure here is achieved. The smart meters, cabling and other measures should ensure that the consumers will at least get the adequate electricity, so that they could heave a sigh of relief.
