Srinagar, Apr 27: The District Development Council (DDC) chairperson, Budgam Nazir Ahmad Khan on Saturday announced his decision to support Peoples Conference president Sajad Gani in the Lok Sabha polls.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Khan announced his decision to support Lone in the polls. “In the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, @sajadlone has emerged as a beacon of hope for the people of Beerwah and Budgam, who have been historically neglected and are now part of Baramulla LS constituency. Wholeheartedly extend my support to Mr. Lone in the forthcoming LS elections,” Khan said.
Khan’s support has bolstered Lone’s prospects in Beerwah and Budgam assembly constituencies where National Conference and Peoples Conference had respectively polled 21166 and 9320 votes in 2019 Lok Sabha polls. These two segments were then part of Srinagar Lok Sabha seat. Farooq Abdullah was then NC’s candidate for Srinagar.
Khan’s support would brighten prospects of Lone as he had secured 22807 votes in Beerwah assembly segment in 2014 polls.
In DDC polls held in 2020, Khan contested as independent candidate and won the polls. Later he was elected as chairperson of the district development council, Budgam.
Sajad has already managed to secure support of Apni Party which has good influence in Tangmarg, Uri, Rafiabad, Budgam, Karnah and Bandipora district.
