Srinagar, May 2: In Jammu and Kashmir, more than 54 percent of academic positions in DIETs and nearly 39 percent positions in SCERT are lying vacant against the sanctioned positions.
According to the official figures available, the vacancy of academic positions includes 219 in District Institute of Education and Trainings (DIETs) and 62 in SCERT.
The official documents with regard to vacancies in TEIs states, “There are 219 (54.07 Pc) vacancies of academic position against the sanctioned post in DIET and 62 (38.99 Pc) in SCERT.”
The Ministry of Education (MoE) accordingly has said that considering the important role of these institutions in empowering of teachers, the vacant positions of the DIETs may be filled on priority.
“In addition, it was informed that the release of funds under the DIET of excellence scheme will be contingent upon the filling up of existing vacancies latest by 30th of June 2024,” it reads.
In the last week of April, it was reported that in MoE has said that in Jammu and Kashmir, ‘hundreds of government-run-schools are with zero student enrolments. Besides, the majority of the institutions are having less than 50 student enrolments.
Moreover, the official documents and latest figures state that more than 18 percent of government schools at elementary level here have an adverse Pupil Teacher Ratio (PTR).
The officials from Jammu and Kashmir in 2023 had said that the count of overall public schools had reduced by nearly 19 percent owing to the ‘zero or low enrolment of students in government schools’.
