NC to protest over statehood demand in New Delhi

Functioning of ministers comes under scanner at CM’s meet with MLAs

Srinagar, May 11: On the final day of Lok Sabha poll campaigning in Srinagar, the Apni Party culminated its campaign with two public rallies held at Kangan and Hazratbal today. People of all ages, both men and women, crowded these public rallies, offering a rousing reception to the party president, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, and his accompanying leaders upon their arrival at the venues.
Addressing the rallies, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari urged people to get rid of the twin political families to put an end to their decades-long exploitation.
He said, “The time has come when you need to use your vote wisely and put an end to the protracted exploitation by twin political families, Abdullahs and Muftis. These families have been deceiving you for years and decades.”
Taking a dig at the NC, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari said, “One of these families fooled people with slogans like ‘Raishumar’ and ‘Autonomy,’ while simultaneously maintaining close ties with New Delhi and entering into agreements such as the Indra-Sheikh and Rajive-Farooq accords.”
He added, “These provocative slogans held no significance after J&K acceded to the country in 1947. Instead, they served as the cause of death and destruction in this region. These emotional slogans led our youth to prisons and graves.”
He went on to say, “NC’s leadership was hand in glove with leaders in Delhi long before independence in 1947. That is why they even changed the very name of the party, originally the Muslim Conference, to the National Conference in 1938. As a result, the NC leadership was given control in J&K after 1947, even without receiving a public mandate, as Delhi handed over the government to them.”
Criticizing the PDP, he said, “The other party befooled people with emotional sloganeering such as ‘Self-rule’ and so on. It kept people busy with emotional sloganeering and, in the meantime, established its family rule here. The late founder leader of this party used to say that he was against dynastic rule but did not forget to hand over the reins of the party to his daughter before passing away. Now, his daughter is grooming and preparing her own daughter to pass on the family’s political legacy to her. They are fooling people.”
Apni Party president reminded people of the killings of innocent people at the times when these parties were at the helm of affairs in J&K. He said, “Their hands are stained with the blood of innocent people, including children. One party was responsible for the deaths of more than 100 children in 2010, while the other killed about 200 children and blinded hundreds of boys and girls using pallet guns. How can people forget these deaths and bloodsheds?”
Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari appealed to the people to support and vote for the Apni Party in these Lok Sabha polls. He said, “I request your support and vote for our candidate in the Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency, Mohammad Ashraf Mir. I assure you that he will represent your sentiments and raise your issues in Parliament. The Apni Party needs public support to implement its agenda. Our agenda is to ensure permanent peace, enduring prosperity, and equitable development across Jammu and Kashmir. I promise you that we will not disappoint you. We will ensure the well-being of the people and a dignified life for the youth.”
The party’s senior leader and former mayor of Srinagar, Junaid Azim Mattu addressed the public rally in Hazratbal.
In his speech, Mattu emphasised on the restoration and maintenance of the ‘centrality’ of the city, and said, “Srinagar’s historic city has been an epicentre of rich culture and civilisation for centuries. This city has always been politically vibrant, yet its historic centrality has been eroded by traditional parties over the years. However, I assure you that the Apni Party is committed to ensuring that this city’s centrality and status are restored and maintained.”
Former legislator and President of the Jammu Kashmir United Movement (JKUM), Ishfaq Jabar, also addressed the Ganderbal rally. It is pertinent to note that Ishfaq Jabar has declared his support for Mohammad Ashraf Mir, the Apni Party’s parliamentary candidate in Srinagar.
Speaking on the occasion, Ishfaq Jabar said, “We have forged an alliance with the Apni Party for the greater interest of the people of J&K. We must defeat the political entities that have been exploiting the people for the past 70 years. Their deceptions began just a few years after 1947. They initiated the so-called “Raishumari” movement and compelled people to sacrifice for it. However, after 22 years, they abruptly ended this movement, saying it was nothing but ‘Awaragardi’ (aimless wandering).”
He harshly criticised NC’s hypocrisy and said, “NC used to call Congress workers and leaders ‘gutter worms’ at one point in time, however, today they are allies with this party. They can go to any extent for the sake of power. That is why we have aligned with the Apni Party to keep NC away from power. In the past, when this party was at the helm of affairs it implemented draconian laws like POTA and others here.”
Ishfaq Jabar stated that a ‘truth and reconciliation’ commission should be established in Jammu and Kashmir to determine who has harmed the interests of the people of J&K and who is responsible for perpetuating violence in the region. He appealed to the people to support and vote for the Apni Party in the parliamentary elections to prevent parties like NC from gaining power and to end their exploitation.
The other prominent party leaders who were present in these public rallies included the party’s Provincial President and the party candidate for the Lok Sabha in Srinagar Mohammad Ashraf Mir, Provincial Secretary Najeeb Naqvi, Provincial Coordinator Javaid Ahmad Mir, Former legislator Ishfaq Jabar, DDC Nuzhat Ishfaq, Senior Leader Imtiyaz Ahmad Parry, Senior Leader Sheikh Ghulam Rasool Saloori, Spokesperson Aijaz Ahmad, DDC Peer Mohammad Yousuf, Muzaffar Ahmad, Mohammad Touib Khan, Ghulam Nabi Bajaad, Mohammad Sultan Shaheen, Faiz Ahmad, Tashok Ahmad Sheikh, Showkat Ahmad Lone, Manzoor Ahamd, Hilal Ahmad Tantray, Ghulam Mohiuddin Kasana, Abdul Majeed, Hamid Faiz, Sajad Ahmad, Aijaz Ahmad, Senior Leader Saqib Makhdoomi, Shabir Reshi, Qaisar Gannai, Muzaffar Reshi, Zonal President Abdul Hameed, Block President Tailbal Ghulam Nabi Baba, Muzammil Rizvi, Mudassir Ahmad, Showkat Ahmad, Ghulam Nabi, Ghulam Nabi Mir, Miss Shaista Aslam, Miss Kulsoom Jee, Abdul Hameed Lone, Er. Yasir Banday, Ali Mohammad Bhat, Sohail Qureshi, Ghulam Mohamad Mir, and others.
