Decline in Hajj applications deserves attention

This Lok Sabha election in Jammu and Kashmir has been breaking all the previous records as the twin Parliamentary constituencies in Kashmir for the first time have set new records of voting as the voter turnout have surpassed the previous figures since eruption of militancy, indicating an end to the boycott factor, which prevailed for several decades together. The massive voter turnout has been recorded after decades of boycott. But, this time, the people, especially the youngsters including the first-time voters have turned up at the polling booths at both the parliamentary constituencies including Srinagar and Baramulla. The voter turnout has been giving an indication that the voter turnout in southern districts of Kashmir as well as in Rajouri areas will be also massive during the polls, slated to be held on May 25. The polling for Anantnag-Rajouri seat was postponed in wake of the requests made by the political parties due to the closure of Mughal Road. The people after voting have clearly stated that they are no longer going to waste their votes and will completely use the opportunity to elect their candidates, who will work for their welfare for the five years of term. After massive voter turnout in Srinagar and Baramulla constituencies, it would be interesting to see the public participation in another phase as the people are expecting huge voter participation in the next and last phase of the polls in Jammu and Kashmir as well. The people living in Anantnag-Rajouri Parliamentary Constituency should take a lesson from the people in two other constituencies and should come out in large numbers to cast their ballots and set new records in the democratic history.
