Srinagar, May 27: The popular tourist destination of Patnitop in the Jammu division is bustling with visitors, as are nearby locations such as Sanasar and Kud. The influx of tourists has notably increased, with many enjoying the Gondola rides, leading to a significant boost in earnings for Gondola operators.
On weekends, Patnitop and its surrounding areas see an influx of five to six thousand tourists, both local and from various parts of the country. While some tourists stay overnight in the available accommodations, others prefer day trips, arriving in the morning and departing by evening. Due to the high demand, some visitors unable to find lodging in Patnitop move on to other nearby locations by evening.
Patnitop has approximately three thousand hotel accommodations available daily. During the peak season, especially to escape the intense heat of the plains, tourists from different parts of the country flock to Jammu’s renowned spots like Patnitop, Sanasar, and Kud. On any given day, Patnitop and its surrounding areas can accommodate between three thousand to 3200 tourists. Many visitors spend their days relaxing under the shade of cedar trees, returning home in the evening, while those staying overnight enjoy the cool climate and scenic beauty in the evening.
Transportation to Patnitop remains a challenge, with only one direct vehicle from Jammu and none from Katra. Tourists typically travel to Udhampur first before heading to Patnitop. Kripal Singh and Devi Dutt, tourists from Katra, shared their experience of having to wait for a long time in Udhampur to find a vehicle to Patnitop.
To enhance the appeal of Patnitop and support its growing tourism, it is crucial to improve transportation links. Increasing the number of passenger vehicles from Jammu, Katra, and Udhampur could significantly boost tourist numbers. Ensuring adequate transport options to Patnitop and nearby destinations like Sanasar is essential to make these scenic locations more accessible to visitors.
Local stakeholders have urged the government to increase the number of vehicles serving Patnitop and Sanasar to accommodate the growing interest and ensure that these beautiful tourist spots remain easily accessible.
