Srinagar, Jun 1: The Resident doctors at Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) Hospital in Srinagar have voiced their demand for a separate canteen within the premises.
The resident doctors said that there is no separate canteen for the staff at hospital due to which they have been suffering especially while performing their duty in night shifts.
They said that the public canteen remains overcrowded and there is a need for a separate 24×7 canteen for staff at the hospital.
Dr Suhail Akbar, spokesperson of Resident Doctors Association (RDA) said that doctors who have been performing in night shifts suffer in the absence of a separate canteen for staff at the hospital.
He said that whether it is SKIMS or GMC Jammu and other hospitals outside, there are separate canteens for staff, and however, there is no such facility at SMHS hospital, adding that during day time, it is not so difficult to manage but during night doctors can’t go outside to eat anything and such facilities should have been available within hospital premises.
Another member of RDA said that doctors have been suffering for want of the food during night hours and this issue needs immediate redressal.
He said that they have already met authorities in this regard; who have assured to address the issue promptly but nothing has been done as of now.
The Resident doctors urged GMC authorities to look into the matter at an earliest and take immediate steps in this regard.
Meanwhile, an official of the hospital said that the canteen has been functioning till late evening while option of 24×7 canteen facilities for the staff is being looked into.
