Pulwama, Jun 13: The residents of Gulshan Pora area in Tral hamlet of South Kashmir’s Pulwama are up in arms against the PHE department which according to them have failed to provide a drinking water facility to their locality.
The residents of Gulshan Pora said that they are suffering for the last several decades in absence of any proper potable water facility in the area.
In absence of any drinking water facility, they are forced to drink contaminated water from the canal due to which water borne diseases can break out any time in the area, they said.
They added that their children and elderly people often fall sick as they are being forced to consume contaminated water.
Ab Rehman, a local resident said that a small pump station is there to cater to locals but the motor often develops snags due to which they face immense hardships.
He said that the motor has been lying defunct for the last eight days and the area is without drinking water facilities since then.
Locals from the area said that the motor works for one day while it remains off for the weeks together but no attention is being given towards the grave issue.
They said that concerned authorities haven’t been receiving their calls, thereby being ignored; adding that despite bringing this issue into the notice of concerned authorities several times; nothing has been done on ground.
They urged the higher ups to look into the matter and take immediate steps in this regard.
