Srinagar, Jun 14: A 62-year-old man from Pulwama, who is known for his social work and cleaning hospital premises, is also known as a blood man of Kashmir as he has donated around 203 pints of blood so far.
Abdul Majeed Bhat, hailing from Pingalgam Singhoo Narbal in Kakapora Tehsil of Pulwama district, has been donating blood since 1984 and has so far donated 203 pints of blood.
Majeed, commonly known as Majeed Narbali or Majeed Gamgeen, said that since 1984 he has been donating blood and “Every year, I donate blood at least three to four times on humanitarian grounds.”
He said that youth in his area have got inspired through his social work and whenever there is an emergency, they themselves visit hospitals and donate blood, adding that his family members are not allowing him to donate more blood now but despite that he has donated two pints of blood this year as well.
Majeed said that he has never asked anyone about his religion and has been donating blood irrespective of religion as humanity is above everything.
“There were several instances when I received SOS calls for blood donation, I didn’t ask them about the credentials of the receiver. I only confirm the address where I have to reach,” he said.
Majeed has been very active in arranging money for marriage of orphan girls, arranging food for needy in hospitals besides cleaning hospital premises and other important places.
“There is a need to educate our youth about humanity which most of them are lacking as it is above religion and other things,” he said. “In order to get solace, spiritual healing and satisfaction, youth must come forward in all social works including donating blood as it saves lives,” he said.
