The rising temperatures in Jammu and Kashmir may end soon as the weatherman has forecasted the possibility of light to moderate rains in the next few days, but one needs to understand that the precautions must be taken amidst the prevailing heat wave in Kashmir, which has surpassed the previous records at several places as well. In Srinagar, the highest maximum temperature was recorded since 1999 while Kokernag recorded the all-time hottest July day while Gulmarg and other places also witnessed the record-breaking temperatures in this month. At present, Kashmir Valley is recording an unprecedented high temperature, there is a dire need of consuming plenty of water, electrolytes (ORS), lemonades and homemade fresh juices to stay healthy and fit and combat the heat wave conditions. The people especially the children and elderly should stay indoors during the peak heat hours unless absolutely necessary, and should consume 1-3 litres more water and fluids than usual, depending on their activities. In order to stay fit during these days, the people must avoid direct sun exposure, especially between noon and 3:00 pm as there is a risk of getting heat strokes, dehydration, and delirium. Some people drink sugary drinks and juices, but there are clear recommendations from the health experts that such drinks must be avoided. The youngsters should also understand that participating in the sports activities in the peak hours can prove detrimental to their health, therefore they should avoid any such activities till the improvement of the weather conditions or delay their activities till the late afternoon hours when the sunsets and the temperatures start plummeting.
