Srinagar, Jul 5: The President of India has conferred 36 Gallantry awards, including 10 Kirti Chakras and 26 Shaurya Chakras, recognising the outstanding bravery and sacrifice of individuals in service. These awards, which include seven posthumous Kirti Chakras and seven posthumous Shaurya Chakras, highlight the unwavering commitment and courage of those who have gone above and beyond the call of duty.
Among the distinguished awardees are five officers from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, honoured for their exceptional valour and dedication to duty. The gallantry awards are a testament to the extraordinary valour displayed by individuals in various operations across the country.
Shaurya Chakra (Posthumous): Selection Grade Constable Saifullah Qadri, a well-known encounter specialist, was posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra for his bravery in numerous gun battles with terrorists. His most notable act of valour occurred during the Bhishember Nagar operation in Srinagar, where he displayed exemplary courage. His dedication and sacrifice have left a lasting impact on his colleagues and the community.
Shaurya Chakra (Non-Posthumous): Sub-Inspector Amit Raina was recognized for his significant contributions to counter-terrorism operations in the region. During an operation in January 2022 in Srinagar, displaying utmost courage in the face of the enemy, he left his cover without caring for his life. He advanced towards the terrorist and in a face-to-face gunfight, neutralized the category ‘A’ terrorist.
Sub-Inspector Faroz Ahmad Dar was awarded for his courage and effectiveness in handling critical security situations. During an operation in Srinagar in January 2022, he took the lead in eliminating a terrorist while ensuring the safety and security of the civilians in the area.
Constable Varun Singh was honoured for his commitment and bravery in crucial operations. Constable Singh played a key role in counter-terrorism efforts, often putting himself in harm’s way to ensure the safety of others. He displayed tremendous grit and determination, an act of gallantry, and a never-say-die spirit under the most challenging circumstances, leading to the elimination of a category ‘A’ terrorist and the recovery of arms and ammunition from the possession of terrorists.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohan Lal was acknowledged for his leadership and gallantry. Superintendent Lal led numerous counter-terrorism initiatives. In June 2022, during an operation in Srinagar, showing exceptional bravery and indomitable will, he neutralised a terrorist.
