Srinagar, Jul 11: With heat wave continuing to grip the valley, the demand for cooling products, particularly air conditioners, has surged dramatically.
This summer season has seen sales of air conditioners more than double compared to previous years, as residents seek relief from the sweltering temperatures.
Retailers and manufacturers alike are reporting unprecedented demand for air conditioning units, with many stores struggling to keep up with the surge in purchases
At 35.7 Degree Celsius, Capital city Srinagar last week recorded the highest temperature of the season.
The current heat wave has made air conditioning a necessity rather than a luxury for many households.
Showkat Ahmad, owner of Dar Electronics who deals with sale of ACs, said that Kashmir, for the first time witnessed such a huge demand for air conditioners.
“Never before has Kashmir seen such a huge demand for ACs. The weather is extremely hot, and people are opting to buy ACs to keep cool. My entire stock of ACs has sold out, and now I am waiting for fresh supplies,” he said.
“For the past few days, stocks have not arrived in Srinagar, and customers are eagerly waiting to purchase ACs,” he added.
Ahmad said that the demand for ACs has almost doubled this summer. “We get orders from many districts. This summer heat wave is prevailing across the valley even in the mountainous regions due to which cooling appliances are in very much demand,” he said.
Muneer Ahmad, another dealted noted that ACs, once primarily purchased by hoteliers and the economically privileged, are now becoming common household appliances in Kashmir.
“Air conditioners are now being bought for homes in Kashmir. Earlier it would be mostly bought for mosques and hotels in Kashmir,” he said.
The demand for other cooling appliances, including fans, coolers, and refrigerators, has also surged this summer.
“We are seeing good sales of fans, fridges, and coolers this season. It is expected that sales might increase further in July and August when the weather remains very hot in Kashmir,” said Furqaan Ahmad, a dealer. (KNO)
