Srinagar, Jul 22: Authorities issued new orders on Monday prohibiting tourists from approaching the Tetwal Crossing point and Kishanganga River in the wake of the significant water flow in the river.
The orders were issued by Sub District Magistrate (SDM) Karnah, who emphasized the strict advisory for both locals and tourists to maintain a safe distance from the river at all times.
SD Karnah Zaffar Ahmad Lone said that the measure is crucial for protecting lives, given the high water pressure in the Kishanganga river.
“There is immense pressure in the river, and despite the fact that this is a prohibited area, some young individuals, ranging from 15 to 20 years old, risk their lives by attempting to take selfies near the river. This area is a Line of Control, with military presence on both sides. We welcome tourists as they are our guests, but their safety is our priority. We have witnessed reckless behavior, such as jumping into the river for selfies, fishing in the river which is strictly forbidden. What if anyone slips into the gushing waters. All this will be troublesome and that is the reason that I have directed the police personnel stationed there not to allow anyone to go near the river. This directive will remain in vogue till the water levels in Kishanganga recede,” said the SDM.
