Ganderbal, Jul 30: Residents of Bonibagh area in Kangan in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district have been forced to relocate after the land within the locality started sinking.
According to residents, panic gripped the locality last evening when the land began to sink suddenly. They attributed the issue to the Hyder Canal, which runs through the upper part of the town, noting that water leaking from the canal is contributing to the land sinking.
The affected population has moved to safer areas to avoid potential loss and financial damage, the residents informed, adding that a shopping complex was also damaged by landslides in the same location in 2020, resulting in the significant losses.
At that time, the administration promised to provide land to the affected people, but no provision has been made till yet.
The local people have appealed to the administration to take immediate steps to address the issue and prevent further difficulties for residents.
