Jammu, Jun 25: A 47-year-old Village Defence Guard (VDG) allegedly died by suicide in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, officials said.
The deceased, identified as Omkar Nath, reportedly shot himself using his own muzzle-loading gun at his residence in Nichla village of Ghagwal area. Family members rushed to his room after hearing a gunshot and found him lying dead, officials added.
The reason behind his extreme step remains unclear. Police have initiated inquest proceedings to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident. (KINS)
