Srinagar, Aug 14: The 50-day-long Amarnath Yatra 2024 is finally coming to an end as the sages are carrying the Chhari Mubarak to the holy cave.
The Chhari Mubarak, symbolising Lord Shiva, has commenced its journey from Srinagar to the holy Amarnath cave, marking the beginning of the culmination of the 2024 Amarnath Yatra.
This year’s 50-day yatra, which started on June 29, has seen a footfall of 5.1 lakh pilgrims so far and is set to conclude on August 19.
The Chhari Mubarak Yatra, led by Head Priest Deependra Giri, began from the Akhara Mandir in Lal Chowk, Srinagar.
Giri, said, “The holy silver mace is set to follow a traditional route. The procession will stay overnight at Pahalgam, where a special Puja will be performed. Thereafter, Chadi Mubarak will stay for another night halt at Chandanwari on August 16, Sheshnag on August 17, and Panchtarni on August 18.”
On August 19, on the occasion of Shravan-Punima, Chhari Mubarak will be taken to the holy shrine of Amarnath Ji to reach it before sunrise, and pujan shall begin with the rising sun, he added.
The yatra, which has witnessed a steady decline in pilgrim numbers over the years, saw over 6 lakh visitors in 2012, compared to 3 lakh in 2022, and 4.4 lakh last year. Despite the declining numbers, this year’s yatra saw a promising turnout of 5.1 lakh pilgrims.
The Chhari Mubarak procession, which plays a pivotal role in the Amarnath pilgrimage, includes special pujas at Pampore, Bijbehara, Anantnag, Mattan, Aishmuqam and Pahalgam. The pilgrimage will conclude on Shravan-Purnima, with the Chhari Mubarak reaching the holy shrine before sunrise on August 19.
Deependra Giri expressed gratitude towards the health department and other authorities for their efforts in enhancing facilities for the pilgrims each year.
The Head Priest said he would pray for the peace, prosperity, and development of Jammu and Kashmir during the culmination of the yatra. The conclusion of the yatra will formally end the 43-day spiritual journey of the Amarnath Ji Yatra for this year.
