SKIMS hosts comprehensive program to discuss roadmap to start Liver Transplant

Srinagar, Aug 17: The Department of Surgical Gastroenterology, SKIMS Saturday conducted a comprehensive program to discuss the road map for starting Liver Transplant.
The event was attended by leading Liver Transplant experts of the country from CLBS, Max Hospital Saket, New Delhi headed by Prof. Subhash Gupta which has the distinction of being among the pioneers of Liver Transplant and running one of the highest volume Transplant Centers of the country.
According to a statement, the team with huge experience has already helped many public and private centers in the country and beyond to set up their transplant programmes. Prof. Abhijeet Chandra from KGMU, Lucknow who has started a liver transplant programme in collaboration with Prof. Subhash Gupta also addressed the gathering via video conferencing.
The experts shared their views and discussed in detail with the faculty members of SKIMS the required protocols to start the program. They said that SKIMS being one of the leading tertiary care centre in the country can set the example and set up the facility which will hugely benefit people suffering advanced liver diseases and need transplant.
Director SKIMS Dr. Ashraf Ganie welcomed the guests and lauded the Department of Surgical Gastroenterology SKIMS for conducting the program which he said will prove a major stepping stone to start this Liver Transplant at SKIMS.
He assured full support of the administration and said he will put in his best efforts to start the Liver Transplant at SKIMS. He said administration will acquire a transplant license, provide the requisite infrastructure and wished the program a great success.
All the faculty members and guest faculty emphasized the need as well as feasibility of Liver Transplant in SKIMS under the patronage of the administration. The guest team assured their full support and help in seeing through a successful transplant program at SKIMS.
Department of Surgical Gastroenterology SKIMS headed by Prof. Sadaf underlined the importance of Liver transplant at SKIMS and said that the team at the department will work tirelessly to see that program is started and run successfully.
The faculty members including Prof. G M Gulzar Head Department of Medical Gastroenterology, Prof. Showkat Gurcoo Head Department of Anesthesiology and Prof. Feroze Shaheen Head Department of Radio-diagnosis & Imaging committed their support to the program and facilitation of development of a Liver Transplant Team.
Dean Medical Faculty, SKIMS Prof. Shariq R Masoodi and Additional Director & Ex-Officio Special Secretary to the Government Firdous Ahmad Giri strongly supported the proposal.
