The much-hyped Smart City project in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir is presently painting a grim picture on the ground as the things have completely turned difficult for the commuters in some areas as the duty emanating at the spots where the work is in progress is giving tough time to them. In Khanyar and some adjacent areas, the commuters are facing immense hardships as the dust on the roads is leaving them worried about their health. At the Gousia hospital, where hundreds of patients visit for treatment on a regular basis had to face tremendous hardships as the duty emanating from the site is further affecting their health conditions. The development of the region is a welcome move and must be appreciated by one and all, but at the same time, the executing agencies should understand that these developmental projects should not affect the health condition of someone, who is travelling through these roads. It is imperative to take apt measures at this juncture so that the dust on the roads would be controlled and the people traversing through these busiest places will not have to suffer. The concerned officials need to intervene in the matter and ensure that the developmental work doesn’t affect anyone’s health, especially at the place where a healthcare facility is already set up for the wellbeing of the common masses. The concerned executing agencies should speed up the work and ensure that the project is completed at the site at an earliest so that the health condition of patients will not get affected further.
