While the government has been claiming high and tall about sanitation and other related processes, the people in Srinagar continue to witness the heaps of garbage piling on the roadsides in the interiors as well as on the main roads here, causing foul smell and simultaneously affecting the pedestrian movement. There seems to be no mechanism in place especially in the City areas as despite the garbage being lifted by the vehicles deployed for the purpose, the people continue to witness the heaps of garbage on the roadsides, particularly in the interiors of the City. The situation is not different on the main roads in Srinagar as in the Habba Kadal area where the heaps of garbage could be seen on the bridge, where dozens of stray can be seen roaming throughout the day as well as the evening hours as well. The pedestrians, however, fear crossing the bridge due to the presence of the stray dogs. To end these sufferings, the concerned authorities need to ensure proper mechanisms in place so that the garbage could be thrown at the apt place and will not land the common masses in trouble. The authorities must ensure proper dustbins in the interior areas of Srinagar City and also at the main junctures where the garbage is being lifted by the vehicles deployed for the task so that the people could heave a sigh of relief and would not face difficulties. Such a measure at this juncture will help the government to achieve its goal of ensuring a neat and clean city.
