Kashmir Valley has once recorded the heatwave with Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, witnessing the severe heatwave, surpassing the previous records in the month of September. Besides, Qazigund, a gateway of Kashmir too has surpassed all the previous records in the month September, showing an increasing trend of the hot and humid weather conditions in the Valley. However, the heat wave for the last couple of days has yet again landed the common masses here in trouble as the people are facing acute water scarcity. The situation emerged just a few days after the heat wave conditions started prevailing in the Valley. One fails to understand the mechanism put in place by the concerned Jal Shakti department as just a few days of hot weather has brought the drought like situation in parts of Srinagar and adjacent districts. The concerned department has always mentioned that the water scarcity is the outcome of the hot weather conditions, which is possible, but one fails to understand why the department is not able to cope up with the things for even the week’s period. The situation should have been avoided by taking necessary measures and ensuring that adequate water is reserved in the reservoirs so that the people won’t be pushed to the wall. The time has come when the department concerned needs to take measures in this regard and ensure that adequate water supply is reserved and a smooth mechanism is put in place for the wellbeing of the consumers across the Valley, especially during the hot weather conditions.
