Srinagar, Sep 28: AIIMS Jammu has launched its chemotherapy facility, ensuring that cancer patients no longer need to travel outside the state for advanced treatment. With cutting-edge technology and a team of specialized doctors, AIIMS Jammu is now fully equipped to provide comprehensive cancer care, including chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immuno-oncology treatments.
Dr. Shakti Kumar Gupta, Executive Director of AIIMS Jammu, announced the opening of the facility and emphasized the relief it brings to patients who previously had to travel to other states for cancer diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care. “Now, with a complete team of cancer specialists and the best modern facilities available in AIIMS Jammu, we can offer treatment that meets global standards,” Dr. Gupta told reporters.
Reflecting on his experience at AIIMS Delhi, Dr. Gupta shared that many patients from Jammu used to seek cancer treatment there, enduring the hardship of being away from home. “I’ve seen their pain firsthand,” he said, expressing satisfaction at now being able to offer these essential services in Jammu itself.
AIIMS Jammu’s state-of-the-art oncology department, led by Dr. Shabab Angurana, recently treated its first cancer patient. The team, which includes Dr. Girija Priya Sharma, Dr. Anjali Bhola, Dr. Suridhi Jasrotia, Dr. Radhakrishna, and Senior Nursing Officer Aarti Sharma, successfully administered the first chemotherapy treatment. The five-hour procedure went smoothly, and the patient was discharged in stable condition.
Dr. Gupta announced that within the next two to three months, AIIMS Vijaypur Jammu will have a fully operational comprehensive cancer care unit, providing a wide range of treatments with the latest medical equipment. He praised the oncology team for their dedication and hard work in launching the chemotherapy facility.
Additionally, Dr. Gupta emphasized the importance of cancer prevention through regular checkups, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and avoiding high-risk behaviors such as smoking and excessive alcohol consumption.
He also urged people to be aware of early warning signs such as unexplained weight loss, persistent cough, or unusual lumps, and to seek medical advice promptly. (KNO)
