DLSA Kupwara holds awareness programme on Victims of Drug abuse, its eradication

Kupwara, Oct 9: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Kupwara, in collaboration with Child Welfare Development, Kupwara, Social Welfare Department Kupwara and Education Department Kupwara Wednesday conducted an awareness programme on victims of drug abuse and eradication of drug menace at GHSS Nagri.
The programme was organised under the supervision and guidance of Shazia Tabasum, Chairperson, DLSA (Pr. District & Session Judge) Kupwara.
The programme was aimed to disseminate awareness amongst the masses regarding the Legal Provisions, various Policies, Programmes and Schemes, in respect of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances as well as to create awareness about the rights of children, ill effects of drug abuse amongst the children in schools and colleges, injective drug user(s), families, workers in unorganized Sector, etc.
Resource Person, Adv. Javid Ahmad Mir (Panel Lawyer DLSA Kupwara) gave an elaborative speech on comprehensive legislations viz. The Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, for prohibition, control, regulation, cultivation, manufacture, sale, transportation, consumption etc of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
He also highlighted that the drug menace continues to be on the rise with students and youth being notably affected. He emphasized on the importance of raising mass awareness with students speaking to their peers and helping each other by encouraging them to inform any untoward behaviour of their friends to teachers and parents.
The programme was attended by Dy. Chief Education Officer Kupwara, Officials of Child Welfare Committee, and Officials of social Welfare Department, Kupwara Officials of Women’s Cell, and Para legal Volunteers of DLSA Kupwara.
