First encounter in Srinagar after Sep 15, 2022

Srinagar, Nov 2: Saturday’s encounter in Srinagar’s Khanyar area, where a top Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) commander was killed, took place after a gap of nearly two years.
The last gunfight in Srinagar was witnessed on September 15, 2022, in the Nowgam area, where two terrorists were killed. The sequence of encounters in recent years has demonstrated the ongoing security efforts and the challenges faced in Srinagar, once regarded as a terror-free zone.
A timeline of major encounters that have occurred in the Srinagar district over the past many years is as:
Year 2024: November 02, Khanyar: LeT commander killed in an encounter breaking the lull since September 15, 2022.
September 14, 2022, Nowgam: Two terrorist killed in an operation that temporarily restored quiet to the city.
June 13, 2022, Bemina: Two Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorists, including a Pakistani national, were killed in an encounter with Security Forces (SFs) in the Bemina area of Srinagar.
May 27, 2022, Soura: Two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist were killed in an encounter with police in the Soura area of Srinagar.
April 10, 2022, Bishambar Nagar: Two foreign terrorist of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) were killed in an encounter with security forces.
March 10, 2022, Hazratbal: A Pakistani terrorist of LeT was killed in a brief shootout in the Hazratbal area of Srinagar, the capital of J&K.
March 16, 2022, Nowgam: Three terrorist of The Resistance Front (TRF), a shadow outfit of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), were killed in an encounter in the Nowgam area of Srinagar.
February 5, 2022, Zakura: Security Forces (SFs) killed two The Resistance Front (TRF) terrorist during a gunfight in the Zakura area of Srinagar.
January 3, 2022, Shalimar: One foreign terrorist of LeT was killed.
Asked about the encounter at Khanyar area of Srinagar after a long gap, IGP Kashmir V K Birdhi said that inputs about movement of terrorists keep on coming. “Today’s gunfight at Khanyar is a significant achievement,” the IGP said. (KNO)
