The loss of precious lives in an accident at Tengpora area of Srinagar on November 14, has left the entire society in a shock and grief, but the shocking revelations have come to the fore, indicating that the two vehicles were racing during the time when the two minor were killed. However, the incident has once again prompt a massive drive against the illegal driving by the minors with the Traffic department checking the two-wheelers and checking their documents, especially the driving licenses. During the drive, many of the commuters were found illegally riding the two-wheelers, who are not the license holders yet. One fails to understand why the parents and the elders at home allow the minors to ride the two-wheeler without a valid license. Allowing this practice shows the lack of civic sense amongst the civilized society where majority of the people are educated, but are not ready to comply with the set norms and orders by the government. Such an attitude would only land the people in trouble and the incidents like yesterday can never be prevented without providing the support to the government by ensuring that all the norms are followed in letter and spirit. At the juncture, there is a need to work together as a society to make sure that no minor loses his life in the unfortunate road traffic accident. Therefore, every single individual has to play a role at this juncture to ensure the precious lives are saved. But, it is equally important on part of the government to ensure that the drives against the minors and traffic norm violators will continue till the target and goal is achieved.
