Amidst the less rainfall, the dry weather conditions prevail in most parts of the Valley, but the cold wave has tightened its grip in multiple places including the Gulmarg, a famous ski-resort, Pahalgam and other places where the sub-zero temperatures were recorded. The summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar, too has recorded a drop in the minimum temperatures as 2 degree Celsius was recorded on the previous night, indicating a huge plummet against the night temperature recorded in the last week. However, the valley hospitals, where a huge rush of the patients could be witnessed on a regular basis have failed to make the heating system operational while the officials have maintained that the system will be made functional from November 24. But, given the present weather conditions, there is a dire need to make the heating system operational as the cold wave like situation prevails in the night hours, which pushes the common masses, especially the patients and their attendants to the wall. The situation is particularly concerning for newborns at the children’s hospital in Srinagar as the babies are especially vulnerable to cold-related ailments. The cold has made hospital wards uncomfortable, leaving patients susceptible to cold-related illnesses with many urging immediate action to address the situation. At this juncture, it is important to take immediate measures in this regard and ensure the heating system is activated for the patients so that they could heave a sigh of relief.
