Kashmiri crafts gets praise

The second phase of 60th anniversary celebration of the World Crafts Council has rejuvenated the faith of the artisans in Jammu and Kashmir in their handwork as the crafts here get praise from the delegates, who were on a visit to Kashmir. Many stalls at Sher-e-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) have fascinated the WCC delegates from all across the globe with some of them saying they have an integral connection to the region’s heritage and history and praising the rich legacy of Srinagar’s art and craft during his visit to the city. Srinagar, known for its exquisite Pashmina shawls, world-famous carpets, and unique papier-mâché art, joined the prestigious list of cities acknowledged by the WCC for their dedication to traditional crafts. The event marked a milestone for the WCC which has been promoting the preservation and growth of crafts worldwide since its establishment in 1964. The 60th-anniversary celebrations provided a platform to celebrate the diverse craftsmanship of member regions. The international delegates attending the event even made it clear that the Valley’s craftsmanship has the potential to shine on a global stage. Amidst the praises showered by the delegates, the government has to take a responsibility at this juncture to ensure that the adequate support is provided to the artisans here, who have the ability to bring laurels to Jammu and Kashmir with their art. The Lieutenant Governor has also stated that his dream is to make ‘Made in Jammu Kashmir’ products world famous. Therefore, the government needs to pace up the efforts to give a boost to the artisans and their products globally famous, which would help in giving a boost to the economy of Jammu and Kashmir as well.
