NSG sets up permanent base in Jammu amid rising terror challenges

Srinagar, Nov 27: In a strategic response to the recent surge in terror incidents across the Jammu region, the Ministry of Home Affairs has directed the National Security Guard (NSG) to set up a permanent base in Jammu city.
The elite commando force, known as the “Black Cats,” specializes in counter-terrorism and hostage rescue operations and their presence is expected to significantly enhance the region’s security.
The move follows a series of terror attacks in various parts of Jammu, raising concerns about regional stability and the safety of its residents.
“By deploying NSG personnel closer to the areas of concern, the government aims to ensure a swift response to potential threats and bolster anti-terror measures,” a senior MHA official said.
The NSG has operated from centralized locations, often requiring significant time to mobilize and reach sensitive zones during emergencies.
“Establishing a permanent base in Jammu marks a tactical shift, allowing the elite force to respond swiftly to emerging threats in the region, which has seen a worrying rise in militant activities,” said another MHA official.
Residents of Jammu have expressed relief at the move, viewing it as a step toward ensuring long-term peace and stability. “With the NSG based here, we feel more secure. Their expertise in handling terror threats is unmatched,” said Ajay Sharma, a local businessman.
The base will also provide logistical support to other security forces in the region, including the Army, CRPF, and J&K Police, ensuring better coordination during joint operations.
As the NSG begins its operations from Jammu, the region’s residents and security experts hope this move will mark a turning point in the fight against terrorism, ensuring that the region remains safe and secure for all. (KINS)
