Baramulla, Dec 2: Prof. (Dr.) Majid Jahangir, the newly appointed Principal of Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla on Monday said that ICU facilities will be introduced at the institution soon, ensuring improved emergency services and better treatment for trauma and maternity patients.
Speaking to the media persons, Dr. Jahangir promised to address existing challenges and improve healthcare services for the region.
He acknowledged the hurdles ahead, stating, “I know there are going to be a lot of challenges and logistic issues, but I will try my best to make the college one of the best in the valley. For that, I need the support of the faculty, MS, administration, locals, besides the media fraternity, who has an important role to play.”
Dr. Jahangir stressed to resolve the issues of the institution promptly. Addressing the frequent referral of patients to hospitals in Srinagar, he said, “I will try my best to improve the patient care at the GMC only so that referrals are reduced.
The institutions are built over decades, so there are going to be logistic issues. The GMC caters to the whole of north Kashmir, besides being located on the main highway, so it’s obvious there are a lot of trauma patients, he said, adding that he will try his best to provide the best possible patient care to the trauma patients as well as to the maternity patients, so referrals to LD Hospital are reduced.
He also highlighted the urgency of upgrading facilities, including the establishment of ICU services. “ICU facilities will be started as soon as possible. It will be my earnest endeavour to make GMC one of the best hospitals in the valley,” he added, seeking media cooperation in his mission.
Notably, Dr. Jahangir took over as Principal following the superannuation of Prof. (Dr.) Ruby Reshi. In addition to his new role, he continues to serve as the Head of the Department of Radio Diagnosis & Imaging at Government Medical College, Srinagar.
