Ganderbal, Dec 20: The residents of Malshahibagh in Ganderbal district have expressed concerns over the recent overflow of the local filtration plant, which they claim has caused significant damage to the nearby paddy fields and orchards.
Locals report that the overflow, which occurred unexpectedly, has resulted in extensive waterlogging, affecting agricultural productivity in the area. The flooding has particularly impacted paddy fields and orchards, leading to substantial financial losses for farmers and residents.
According to the affected residents, the employees at the filtration plant appeared indifferent to the situation, leaving the community to deal with the aftermath.
“We have been left to suffer while the authorities do nothing. Our crops are ruined, and no one is taking responsibility,” a local farmer said while highlighting the frustration of the community.
The residents have appealed to the authorities to investigate the cause of the overflow and take immediate action to prevent further damage.
In response to the allegations, the concerned Junior Engineer (JE) denied any connection between the overflow and the filtration plant’s operations. “This is not an overflow from our filtration plant,” the JE said.
About the possible cause of the damage, the JE suggested other factors might be responsible. “We are conducting a thorough investigation to ensure the issue is addressed,” the JE added.
The situation has sparked concern among local farmers, who are urging the authorities to address the issue promptly and prevent future incidents.
