Baramulla, Dec 23: In view of the inclement weather conditions and the ongoing severe cold wave in Kashmir, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, convened a meeting at the DC office to review arrangements aimed at safeguarding the lives of homeless individuals and other vulnerable sections of society.
During the meeting, the DC emphasized the urgent need to provide immediate relief and support to those most affected by the harsh weather conditions. He directed the Sub-Divisional Magistrates to identify and prepare shelter homes in their respective jurisdictions.
These shelters will provide a safe and warm environment for the homeless and other vulnerable individuals. The DC stressed that all identified shelters must be equipped with adequate heating arrangements to ensure comfort and protection against the biting cold.
Meanwhile, the DC instructed the Assistant Director FCS&CA to ensure the provision of food supplies to the homeless to guarantee that no individual suffers from hunger during these challenging times.
In addition to these measures, the health department was tasked with addressing cold-related health concerns. The CMO and the Medical Superintendent GMC Baramulla were directed to establish standard treatment procedures for illnesses associated with severe cold.
The DC further said that safety and well-being of our people remain our top priority, especially during these extreme weather conditions. He urged all stakeholders, including the police and other administrative officers, to extend their full support in identifying and assisting those requiring help.
The meeting was attended by Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR), Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Uri, SDM Pattan, SDM Gulmarg, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), officers from the Police Department, and other key officials.
