Empowering women, nurturing children: Yoga for One Earth, One Health

Kashmir is known for its harsh winters and unpredictable weather conditions. Like every year, the region has witnessed the snowfall again. These weather conditions not only test the resilience of its people but also highlight the pressing need for efficient government mechanisms to ensure public safety and uninterrupted access to essential services. The snowfall in Kashmir brings with it a cascade of challenges. Roads are often rendered impassable due to snow accumulation and landslides, leaving many areas—especially remote villages—cut off from the rest of the region. Power outages, a perennial issue, exacerbate the difficulties faced by families trying to stay warm. Healthcare access becomes a nightmare as patients, including pregnant women and the elderly, struggle to reach hospitals. Adding to the woes is the scarcity of essential commodities like food and fuel, which often see inflated prices during inclement weather. To mitigate these challenges, the government must adopt a proactive rather than reactive approach. However, as the fresh snowfall has occurred at many places across Jammu and Kashmir, the time has come for the government to act and ensure there is no disruption of essential services and facilities to the people. It is the time when the words have to be implemented on the ground. While some roads are still closed, the government must prioritize the healthcare services and make special arrangements in this regard. The people of Kashmir have long demonstrated incredible resilience in the face of adversity, but they deserve better support from the administration. Ensuring the well-being of citizens during harsh winters is not just a necessity but a moral obligation.
