Srinagar, Dec 30: The recent snowfall as well as the bone-chilling cold in the Valley has brought down the market across Kashmir with the traders, claiming that the business has declined by nearly 40 per cent this season.
Ali Mohammad Ganie, a noted trader from Anantnag said that due to cold wave conditions, the people prefer to stay inside due to which there is a dip in business as well.
He said that people, who install their carts on streets, also prefer to open their business units at 11 am at least and close it by 4 pm due to severe cold. He said that due to severe cold, the people don’t prefer to come out of their houses unnecessarily.
Ganie further said that overall business is down by around 30-40 per cent, which is mainly the outcome of the bone chilling cold.
Mushtaq Ahmad Dar, another trader from Pulwama said that the bone-chilling temperatures have significantly shortened the business hours and business activity has declined by 40 to 45 percent.
He said that though there was improvement in the temperature in the last two days but due to snowfall, the people continue to stay indoors, adding that a significant number of people visit Jammu and other places during winters, which also led to the decline in the business.
Notably, Kashmir is undergoing a severe cold since last three weeks due to which people have been facing hardships.
