GMC Anantnag faces shortage of female ECG technicians

Anantnag, Jan 1: Female patients at Government Medical College Anantnag are expressing discomfort due to the absence of female ECG technicians, a situation that has persisted since the college’s establishment in 2018.
The lack of female technicians has led many women to seek services at private laboratories, incurring additional expenses and facing accessibility challenges. “I felt uneasy undergoing an ECG with a male technician, so I opted for a private lab despite the higher cost,” said a local resident.
Principal GMC Anantnag, Prof. Dr. Rukhsana Najeeb, acknowledged the issue and assured that steps are being taken to address it promptly. “We recognize the concerns of our female patients and are committed to deploying a female ECG technician in the near future to ensure comfort and accessibility for all,” she said.
The absence of female technicians has been a longstanding concern, with reports dating back to 2020 highlighting the discomfort faced by female patients. [KNT]
