Decline in Hajj applications deserves attention

Education is pivotal for every single individual to ensure progressive and inclusive society. However, Jammu and Kashmir as per the recent reports have witnessed a drastic surge in dropout rate, becoming the third highest place in North India. This alarming statistic underscores a deepening crisis in the region’s educational system, one that threatens the future of countless young individuals and, by extension, the socio-economic development of the entire state. While educational challenges are not new to Jammu and Kashmir, the current rate of dropouts reveals systemic failures that must be addressed urgently. The dropout rate is not just a statistic; it represents lost potential, thwarted dreams, and a weakening foundation for the state’s future. For many children in Jammu and Kashmir, especially in rural and conflict-affected areas, education has always been a difficult terrain to navigate. The prolonged conflict, economic instability, and geographical challenges have contributed to a volatile learning environment where students struggle to access quality education and face social pressures to leave school. Jammu and Kashmir’s education system is at a crossroads. The third-highest dropout rate in North India is a crisis that cannot be ignored. It requires a coordinated, multi-faceted response from the government, civil society, and local communities to create an education system that is inclusive, accessible, and sustainable. It is not just the future of individual students at stake, but the future of an entire generation in Jammu and Kashmir. If we fail to address this issue now, the social and economic consequences will be far-reaching, perpetuating cycles of poverty, unemployment, and unrest.
