Srinagar, Jan 25: Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, on Saturday commended the collective efforts of the people, election officials, and other stakeholders for ensuring the smooth and fair conduct of the recent parliamentary and assembly elections in the region.
He stressed the peaceful elections, marked by zero instances of re-polling, were proof of the active participation and cooperation of the public. He said the Election Commission of India (ECI) also recognized the success, commending the region for the efficient execution of the polls.
Speaking to the media in Srinagar on National Voters Day, Bidhuri, thanked the people and all others concerned in the electoral process in holding free and fair elections, along with DO, ERO, AERO, and others.
“The active participation of voters in Kashmir was key to the success of these elections. The free and fair polls reflect the improved law and order situation and the growing trust of the people in the democratic process. The ECI awarded us for this achievement,” he said.
He also noted the broader improvements in the region saying, “A few years ago, operating hotels in Sonmarg during Chilai Kalan was unimaginable. Today, it’s a reality due to better connectivity and enhanced law and order.”
The Div Com also mentioned the geotagging of Chinar trees, calling it a vital step in preserving Kashmir’s heritage. “This initiative aims to safeguard the region’s ecological and cultural identity, with more trees to be included,” he said.
Additionally, the Divisional Commissioner extended greetings to the people on the eve of Meraj-ul-Nabi (SAW) and Republic Day celebrations, urging for public participation. “There are no restrictions. Come early and join the celebrations to ensure proper seating arrangements, and only bring an I-card with you,” he said.
