The recent rainfall has exposed the developmental scenario in Srinagar, especially in the old city areas where the potholed roads were seen filled with the inundated water, causing huge inconvenience to the general public. The four-day wet spell in Jammu and Kashmir might have brought relief to the people in terms of witnessing the recharging of water reservoirs and also helping in increasing the hydro power generation, but many of the people in Srinagar’s old city areas had to face hardships due to the potholed roads that were filled with the inundated water, exposing the developmental claims of the government. One fails to understand why the government, especially the concerned authorities do not take proper measures to ensure the proper macadamization of the areas in the interiors of Srinagar with many of the residents claiming that the renovation of roads has not been done for several years in the areas, thereby causing huge inconvenience to them. The situation is being witnessed at a time when the development has remained the war cry for the successive regimes in Jammu and Kashmir, indicating the non-serious attitude of those at the helm of affairs in resolving the public issues. There are people, who believe that the main roads are being macadamized only to pretend that the developmental works are going on, while the interiors have been neglected like anything, which simultaneously push the common masses to the wall. It is the time for the elected government to identify all the interior roads where necessary macadamization and repairs are to be taken without any further delay and consequent action is needed in this regard to ensure that the people in Srinagar could heave a sigh of relief.
