In the holy month of Ramadhan, the people across Kashmir obey the religious obligations in spirit. But, in some of the areas in Srinagar, the defunct street lights are leading to the hardships of common masses, who find it difficult to reach the Masjid and back home due to the less visibility in the morning and evening prayers. Ahead of the holy month, all the departments were asked to make adequate arrangements to ensure better facilities to the people, but in Srinagar, the people have been left on God’s mercy as the concerned authorities have failed to take appropriate action to ensure all the defunct street lights are made functional, especially for this month for the wellbeing of the people. However, such a situation amidst the presence of a huge number of stray dogs push Srinagar residents here to lurch at large, thereby forcing many of them to offer prayers at home. In this scenario, the concerned authorities need to take apt measures and ensure all the defunct street lights are made functional, especially in the month of Ramadhan. It is high time for the government to pass strict directions to the concerned authorities in this regard and ensure that the people living in Srinagar areas are provided with better facilities. The directions passed by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah recently should be implemented in letter and spirit so that the people here could heave a sigh of relief.
