Kashmir’s next revolution will rise from its fields

Decline in Hajj applications deserves attention

For the first time in the last seven years, the Jammu and Kashmir government has unveiled the budget in the Legislative Assembly, announcing major relief for the people belonging to the poor section of the society. The Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has made special announcements for the families falling under the AAY category as he announced free 200 units of electricity, additional ration of 10 kg per person and also free bus services in Government run transport for the womenfolk. These decisions have really brought major relief to the people, who had high expectations of this government and were pinning hope for the people-friendly decision in the maiden budget session of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. However, some of the people were expecting more favourable decisions like the regularization of casual labourers and daily wagers, which was the long pending demand of these workers. These people have served different departments for the last several decades but have been neglected by the successive regimes in Jammu and Kashmir so far, which simultaneously affect the livelihood of their families. The demands of these daily wagers and casual labourers need to be fulfilled at this juncture as they deserve the proper care and attention from the government for their role, which they played from time to time in ensuring better services to the people. The government needs to appreciate their role by fulfilling their demands at this juncture so that they along with their families could heave a sigh of relief. The government needs to play its role for the regularization of casual labourers and daily wagers so that their miseries will come to an end.
