In the holy month of Ramadhan, the markets across the Valley, especially in Srinagar are witnessing a hustle bustle with the shoppers being witnessed buying essentials for the fasting. However, the flow in the markets is turning into a frequent gridlock at multiple places in Srinagar, especially in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, which leaves the commuters to lurch at large. The frequent traffic congestion is witnessed usually at the peak hour of Iftari when the commuters are in a hurry to reach their home and open their day-long fast. However, the choking of roads with the huge rush of traffic is pushing them to the wall, thereby seeking an end to the issue at this juncture. The prevailing situation of traffic congestion is expected to increase further as the people in large numbers would come out of their homes to buy essentials for the festival ahead. The markets would start witnessing a rise in the influx of shoppers in the coming days as the people will start buying essentials for the Eid-ul-fitr, which would likely be celebrated by the end of this month. The rise in the footfall of shoppers would certainly end up in further congestion, thereby putting a responsibility on the shoulders of the concerned authorities, especially traffic police department, to take measures and ensure smooth and hassle free movement for the commuters. There is a need to take apt measures at this juncture so that the flow of shoppers in the coming weeks could be tackled easily.
