New Delhi, Mar 20: Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh are making strides in non-motorized urban transport projects under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) and other urban development initiatives.
According to the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), a total of 16 projects have been completed in J&K, while one is still in progress. Ladakh has completed one project, with two more currently underway.
These projects aim to promote sustainable urban mobility, enhance pedestrian-friendly infrastructure, and integrate green corridors into city planning.
The government has been encouraging green urban spaces, eco-friendly transit solutions, and rejuvenation of natural corridors under various schemes.
A total of 330 non-motorized urban transport projects have been completed across the country, with 21 more in progress.
The Hubballi Dharwad Smart City project in Karnataka received 115.68 crore for a Green Mobility Corridor, setting an example for similar projects in other states.
The URDPFI Guidelines 2014 emphasize green urban planning and mobility solutions, encouraging cities to integrate sustainability into infrastructure development. (KNO)
