Uproarious scenes in assembly over issues of daily-wagers

Jammu, Mar 25: The Legislative Assembly on Tuesday witnessed uproarious scenes over protests of daily-wagers with legislators from treasury benches and opposition Bharatiya Janta Party raising slogans against each other.
After the Question Hour concluded, Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma drew the attention of the government towards strike of daily-wagers over their demands
“The strike of daily wagers has triggered a water crisis, and it is unfortunate that there is no response from the government over it”, he said.
He said he had also raised the issue in the House on Monday but there has been no response from the government over it.
Responding to LoP Sharma, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary accused BJP of failing to resolve their issues in the past 10 years.
“Why were they not agitating for the past 10 years? We formed a committee within days to resolve the issues of daily wagers. Why you (BJP) didn’t form a committee to address their grievances in the past 10 years?” he asked.
This led to exchange of heated arguments and sloganeering between BJP and Treasury benches.
Amid continuous disruptions, the Speaker said that a committee formed by government would look into the issues of daily wagers.
As BJP legislators continued with the protests, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah intervened saying that the government is serious in resolving their issues.
“If we were not interested in addressing their issues, we would not have formed the committee headed by the Chief Secretary. We are surprised that they are staging protests even after the constitution of the committee,” he said, adding that he would look into the reasons behind the protests.
As protests continued, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that BJP has admitted that there has been injustice with daily wagers over the past ten years
“I appeal to the protesting daily wagers to call-off the strike. The committee headed by CS officers and bureaucrats will hold talks with you. I have full faith in CS and my officers,” he said.
Later, the BJP legislators staged a walkout from the House, accusing the government of being non-serious in resolving issues of daily-wagers. (KNO)
